How does it work? Some artworks appear to be optical illusions.
And this is one of them: expertly crafted, centering a genuine root sculpture. It looks as if the metal base opposes the wood. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Invisible to the eye, the sculpture is tensioned on the back with a steel cable with an end stopper. The rest of the artwork ‘floats’ in the middle.
The Materials.
Steel Cable
A 1.2 mm galvanized steel cable was chosen. It’s easy to cut and doesn’t fray, making it ideal for such delicate work.
Steel Cable Stoppers/Clamps
Stainless steel cable stoppers equipped with a hex screw were used to fine-tune the artwork. The round stoppers can be easily placed on the cable and tightened with a hex key.
The other stoppers are open-sided, allowing them to be placed on the cable afterward. Tightening the hex bolt secures these stoppers on the cable as well.
