Like every month, Staalkabelstunter has a photo competition. This time it was won by Joop Kos. He has tied his grape vines with steel cable. He has made a fantastic ruin under the grapes. Enjoy the cake Kos and have a (homemade) wine with it!
Joop used for this construction:
Filomat brass plated 5mm steel cable and tensioned with wire tensioners hook eye m5. The steel cable was secured with galvanized wire clamps.
Tie grape vines with steel wire
Steel wire is much more versatile than you think and as crazy as it seems you can make a lot of things with steel wire. You may have noticed that espalier trees are tied by steel wire, for example, but it is also wise to support grapes with it.
Since a grapevine is a plant that needs to be tied, you will find that they are often planted near walls or fences as it is then easy to grow the grapevine against them. If you don't have grapevines or a wall at your disposal, you can easily use steel wire or plasticized clothesline to stretch a guideline to allow the plant to grow around.
Steel wire is available from Staalkabelstunter and is very easy to use. Due to the high quality of this wire, it will not rust or deteriorate, so you are assured of a long lifespan and you can lead your own grapevines to the steel wire for many years. The bigger your grapevines get, the more wires you will have to stretch, but the ideal thing about steel wire is that it is hardly noticeable and blends in well with the environment.
Brighten up your garden, porch, balcony or even your ruin with beautiful grapevines and make guidelines from the very best quality steel wire. Of course you also have to prune the plants every now and then and pick the ripe grapes for the preservation of your plants.
A well-maintained outdoor environment will ensure that you will enjoy the outdoors more and growing your own fruit and vegetables using steel wire is a good start. You can even tension the steel wire in such a way that at some point you get a shelter of grapes above your terrace, which will give you the feeling that you are on holiday all year round.
